Silversyde
Silversyde was birthed from turmoil, chaos, and despair. Our lyrics tell a story of release from spiritual havoc, physical pain and mental anguish. We have been plagued spiritually through addiction to many harmful behaviors including drugs, alcohol, sexual immorality, pornography, and an incessant desire to find acceptance in people and behaviors that sought to destroy us. We have been beaten ph ysically by excessive bullying in High School, physical abuse and sexual assault which led to self destructive behaviors such as cutting and multiple suicide attempts. We have been tormented mentally with clinical depression, constant suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, protracted verbal abuse and reinforced negative mind sets of body image, worthlessness and finding identity in pain. Our failure to deal with the pain and angst of life led us to live our lives with reckless abandon, not caring if we lived or died while constantly chasing the wind. We treated our body, soul, and mind with the same contempt others had treated us with but the resulting apathy about life was a mask, we just longed for the pain and heartache to end. Our souls were crying out for HELP, looking for release, a way out. SILVERSYDE is a metaphor about finding hope in the worst of circumstances. Surrounded by the storm clouds, we each cried out for HELP and were able to find the silver lining in Hope, Eternity, Love and Purity. This symbolic metaphor for H.E.L.P. is the focus of our band and what our music is all about. We are the underdogs, the people who never quite fit in, and now through our genuine, raw, and emotionally gripping music we want to help other ‘outcasts’ and hurting souls find reconciliation. Our calling is to show people a way through the stress and troubles of life that plague our everyday existence. Not to say that stress and trouble will magically disappear, but somehow it will become easier to bare when we learn to release its power over us.
We are far from perfect and do not pretend to be. Each of us has a unique story of struggle that is transparent in our music. Just as the Phoenix rises out of the ashes so has our Spirit risen again in rebirth. We have found our VALUE in the values of our creator, and have rejected the destructive forces that have enslaved us. Whether the struggle is with addiction, depression or just a wavering commitment to uphold our God given identity we realize we are fallible and in need of redemption. Our life experience and struggles are crucial in helping us relate to our fans/audience. Currently our focus is on suicide prevention. Our own suicidal tendencies and near death experiences have given us the ability to relate to people and offer HELP to those who are in similar situations.
Our lyrics cry out "Lost is where I’ve been and broken is where I’m from...I’m so lost without You...I can’t do this on my own, so save me", written in 2008 by Laura Jones whose song inspirations come from a long road of pain and heartache. Our music, tells a story of a great emptiness inside that we have a longing to fill so as a substitute for anything absolute we end up filling it with our own definition of "love", sex, drugs and all encompassing addictions that lead ultimately to a depressed state of being. Our song Firewall bluntly asks "What are you searching for, what are you dying for, why must you throw this life away? Your life is so much more than you walking out the door, please see that there’s a better way!" Meaning that behind the facade of trying to escape a reality of broken loneliness, there’s a soul that is reaching out for a higher purpose. But then a light shines through our music and plainly divulges that God loved each and every one of us so much, and that He wants us to find fulfillment in Him that He gave His Son Jesus to die for us and to disarm the evil powers that seek to steal our identity, destroy our values, and ultimately kill us. No longer shall we be slaves to depression and addiction. No longer shall we be subject to mediocrity and the foolish things of this life that bring us down. We can be set free and live victoriously in the knowledge that though we may fall and stumble, we have a Savior that has paid the ultimate price for us. Our lyrics are real, our motives are pure and our hearts are set on reconciliation with the source of all purposeful, abundant Life
